Kristy Klinnert was an incredibly talented
runner who made history during her four years at
Kodiak High School. Kristy was an unbeaten
cross-country runner from her freshman year to her
senior year. She was the Alaska State Cross-Country
Running Champion from 1983-1987. She also
participated and distinguished her self in track
and field. She set and still holds the State record
in the two-mile. For two years in a row, she won
the State Championship in the mile and 3200. In
1986, Kristi was named the Alaska Sports Person of
the Year. Kristi continued her running career at
Northern Arizona University. She was a three time
All American in Division I crosscountry. She still
holds the conference and school record for the 10K.
Kristi qualified for the Olympic Trials in the
marathon and in the 10K. She won a bronze medal in
the World University Games in 1995 in the
marathon.
Kristy is a math teacher in the Anchorage School
District at Central Middle School. She coaches
cross-country running and track and field. She
volunteers with Team Alaska and the Run for Women.
Recently, Kristy has learned to swim and bike and
has become competitive in the triathlon competition
in Alaska. She is also a new mom&emdash;a totally
different challenge.
